Cries echo out across the ocean, drowning out the gentle sound of waves lapping at the shore. Metal clanks and the voices of men rumble in and out. Unknown eyes watch from the land, waiting for the weak and injured to be delivered into their jaws. The cries grow louder, as if they may very well burst forth from the iron cages that hold them. In an instant, it all stops. A single gate falls forward, smacking the water. In its wake, a menagerie of creatures run for their freedom.

The boat is still some ways from the shore and already there are scavengers pacing, waiting for their time to come. As the seconds pass, the contents of the steel carrier escape, crashing into the water blindly. Fur, feathers, scales, hooves and paws fly in every which direction, seeking contact with the ground they strain so heavily to reach. Some lose their will, and succumb to the current as they are dragged beneath the waves. Others fight. They fight for their lives, for everything they have suffered through and the right to continue on. Despite the horrors they have faced, they refuse to lose this final battle.

Upon reaching a solid surface, sand sinking beneath their weight, the animals are given time to reflect. Looking back, the ship has already begun to pull away. The bodies of some begin to wash up, their stiff, lifeless limbs pulled at by growing hordes of scavengers. The humans are gone, the weak disposed of, and a new life laid out before them. Who knows what fates wait for those who are banished to this place? What things will they accomplish? What dangers will strike down the unfortunate?

The future is uncertain, but one thing remains clear. Here is paradise, and here we shall stay.
