Jamie always hated going first when it came to competitions - he was supertious that first rider always ended up with the lowest scores. A snort escaped Fiver, as if he sensed that his human was thinking some nonsense. The young man couldn't help but to smile at his gypsy vanner now, giving him a good pat on the neck, "You're right, boy, now's not the time to think about that sort of stuff. We're going to kick ass." Sure enough, Aurora was waving them over out of the practice arena to the main arena, their time had come.
The pair walked into the arena now, trotting up to the center, and stopped to bow to the judges before they moved forward into their freestyle now. As 'I'm Blue' by Bebe Rexha came on, that familiar beat flooding his and Fiver's ears, it was as if they muscle memory took over to the pop song borrowed from the Blue Man Group. They shuffled through their stuff, walk, trots, extended trots, and canters. They rode deep into corners and did serpentines along with a few loops, but perhaps the prize of their routine was the volte - which they managed to execute beautifully.
As the song began to come to an end, so did their routine, as Jamie and Fiver made their way back down the center line towards the judges, coming to a complete hault, and bowed once more - perfectly ending their freestyle as the song ended. As the crowd clapped, the young man smiled and gave Fiver a good pat or two or three, as the pair of them walked off, where they would wait until their next class.
I'm setting out into the great unknown, I don't know where I'm going but I'm ready
thanks aofie!

Left to his own devices to pick a song for his freestyle, Leo had gone for something he felt was outside the box - and probably highly inappropriate for younger audiences. They had no idea what the words were anyway, but it had a good beat and he found it entertaining... plus it made him want to dance and that was what they were doing when they were working the test. Hotspur was a younger ride than his seasoned chestnut, but he moved nicely and was a little less hotheaded than Phoenix - it did a lovely test, and Leo had picked one that would suit him best and be the easiest to show him off.
He took a long time to warm him up, as the youngster liked to have a good spook until he settled into the work and his brain felt stimulated. He gave a salute to the music dude once he was ready and the judges has cued him to start, and then the show was on. He tried hard not to sing along, not wanting to get penalised for 'talking' during the test, but damn was it hard. He sat still and soft in the saddle, feeling Hotspur start off a little tense, especially with how loud the music was playing, but he soon settled and began to soften around Leo's inside leg. Giving a wonderful test, Leo halted at the end and saluted extravagantly to the judges, then gave the bay a healthy pat. He'd done a lovely job, and he felt it couldn't have gone much better.
Aurora had been awake for ages - braiding Phantom's mane herself. It was something that allowed her to be in the zone. The blonde woman hand walked the chestnut stallion around, allowing him to explore the show grounds. She had her wireless headphones in her ear - listening to her choice of dressage music as the pair walked around.
She knew Andrew and Alexi would make it in time for her class. After a quick check of her watch, it was time to head back to start getting ready. Phantom took one last munch of grass before the walk back to the stall. Once they arrived, she took the halter and slinky off before starting their grooming session. It wasn't long before the chestnut was ready to go in the warmup ring. She quickly got herself ready before putting the bridle on the horse's head.
The woman led her horse towards the mounting block, tightening the girth before getting on. She put her feet in her stirrups and began warming up once they entered the warmup ring. Naomi had agreed to help her during that time. Aurora kept her ears open, hearing that her name was coming up as they were wrapping up their warmup. She brought Phantom back to the walk, steering him towards the show ring.
She heard her music start as they headed towards X, heading in at a working walk before halting and saluting. The routine went smoothly - Aurora added some leg yields, canter pirouettes, collected canter and some 20 meter circles. She finished up her routine on the right at the collected trot - halting at X to compete the test.
The blonde let out a sigh, loosening the reins and patting the chestnut on the neck as the exited the arena.
It had been a while since Dallas had done a freestyle to dressage, but he had always enjoyed doing them in the past and was keen to try another whilst the option existed. He figured Aftershock would enjoy the pump of something loud and upbeat, so ACDC struck a cord with Dallas when he chose his song. They'd done a few practices to it, and he'd tried to make it relatively uncomplicated so that the test flowed well. It was a nice change for him to get to pick his own moves, and it allowed him to go with those that would best show off his horse, and keep Aftershock's ever busy brain occupied. He'd watched some of the others go before him, smiling at the ingeniousness of their tests and song choices - of course, he rolled his eyes' at Leo, that lad was quite the fool sometimes.
Aftershock felt great as they warmed up, and heading in the ring he felt surprisingly focused and on the ball. As they progressed through their test, the gelding's attention drifted a little, and Dallas had to work to bring him back onto the job properly, giving and taking with the reins gently to encourage him to soften properly again. He knew they'd have lost some points at the couple of delayed transitions and the slight hollowing, but overall he was pleased with the gelding as they finished their test. Letting him out on a long rein and giving him a good pat of thanks.
