Jax Shepherd knew that he hadn’t been the greatest with keeping in touch with Emberlyn Myer. In fact, he had been downright awful with it and he had her number. But after running into her at the farmers market a few weeks ago, and their conversations sparked just like they always had, Jax knew he wanted to make a change and move forward. He didn’t have active duty looming over his dating life like he had in the past, and, much to his dismay, a little therapy had been helping him along with mental recovery. So really, Jax had no excuses.
It was exactly why he found himself at Hickstead Secondary School now, right after the last of the classes ended, with a large bouquet of flowers. In fact, it was a vase. He docked it out of his pay, and made sure to work on it in his off-hours. His boss, Dahlia Baker, didn’t seem to mind as he nitpicked over every detail, over every flower, to just try and make it perfect. In fact, it had gotten to the point where Dahlia actually stepped in to assure him that the arrangement was done and should stop stalling his feelings.
Nerves were bundling up in Jax already though as he climbed the steps of the school and made his way to the teachers lounge – convinced that’s where she would be since he remembered his good friend Olympia mentioning one time that all the teachers like to hang out there after the rush of the last bell. It was funny that all of the shit that Jax had ever did with the Navy felt like nothing compared to bringing a pretty woman a vase of flowers of his design, in hopes of asking her out, but here he was, about to do it.
Jax managed to open the door now and walk in, his hazel eyes looking around like a hawk and spotted Emberlyn talking with someone. Taking a deep breath, the man started to walk over towards her now, fully confident that absolutely nothing could go wrong.

[attr="class","o-text"]Olympia was looking forward to the end of the day, mainly because the episode she and her dad made would be released. Granted, it was done a bit ago – it was always so fun to listen to it. She also secretly loved hearing her students whisper about it in the hallway. While it wasn’t completely out per se, her students seemed to respect her enough about it.
She had a few more things to do to prepare for next week. Especially on Halloween day. Olympia always had to do a special project with kids of all ages. Mainly, the telling of historical ghost stories for the older kids, and kiddy art for the youngsters.
After her last class, Olympia headed towards the lounge to grab a pick-me-up. To be only met with a familiar face. “Jax Shepherd! Fancy seeing you here,” Olympia laughed. The poor man looked a bit lost, like the first time they met in January.
She didn’t leave much room for an answer before she pulled him into a tight hug. Making sure not to crush the flowers he had in his hands. “Oh, who’s the lucky teacher today to receive one of your beautiful designs?” she asked. “Also! If you’re free this weekend, I’m doing one of my final haunted tours!”
“please remember to do your math packets and return them to me next week.” Em managed to get out before the last bell rang and the kids packed up there things and bolted. Shaking her head she sighed and started packing up her own things into her bag. Dropping it over her arm, she grabbed her cup of water and flipped the lights off heading out of the classroom and meeting up with another math teacher they made their way to the staff lounge. Em hadn’t quite figured out why all the teachers liked to gather here after the day was over but here they were talking away and sharing their days. She and the other math teacher found a spot to sit and talk about next week and the upcoming math bowl. When all of the sudden she heard Jax name from another teachers mouth and she just happened to look and there he stood. What on earth was he doing here in the teachers lounge and were those flowers? Em was so confused by the whole exchange between them, she raised an eyebrow what was Olympia to him? She thought that her and Jax had really hit it off, maybe it was just wishful thinking on her part but she was going to find out. Standing she made her way over to them, “Jax what are you doing here?” She asked looking between the two with a raised eyebrow.
Jax about jumped out of his skin when a voice broke through the quiet chatter in the teacher's lounge: "Jax Shepherd! Fancy seeing you here!” He stopped dead in his tracks, no doubt looking like some pathedic deer in the headlights when hazel eyes glanced over and saw none other than his friend, Olympia Blanchet, coming over. Before he could even get anything out of his mouth, she was grabbing him to give him one of her famous bear-like hugs without crushing his flowers, "Olympia! Well, I-" Jax started now, but the blonde woman was already launching into her typical warm chatter now. It felt like all eyes were on them now as she inquired who his flowers were - which must have looked odd given he was not in his work delivery uniform.
"Oh, well, sure I am free this weekend as far as I know," he said with a grin now, "And the flowers are for-" but he quieted now as a voice broke through his own words now: "Jax? what are you doing here?” Well shit. In all of the chaos that had ensued with Olympia's arrival, he had lost Emberlyn Myers from his sightings, only now to find her standing in front of him and his best friend with a look on her face that he couldn't quite read. But as Ember's hazel green eyes looked between him and then Olympia, it became clear what she might be thinking. Jax felt his face burn now with horror, no doubt flushing red, "Ember! It's not what it looks like," he didn't know why he spoutting off like he had just been caught cheating (and for the record, it was something he would never fathom, "Olympia and I are jsut friends." Well, best friends, but no need to get into the logistics right now with that.
Hazel eyes looked to Olympia now, asking for help in this endeavor. Although now he realized in the back of his mind that this could go one of two ways - either Olympia would be cool as a cucumber, or she would accidently follow him down the rabbit hole of awkwardness as well. He was still clutching his flowers now, almost a little too tightly, mentally annoyed with himself that of all the places in the world, he thought that the teacher's lounge would have been the best place to deliver flowers that he specifically made for Emberlynn.

[attr="class","o-text"]“Oh, great!” Olympia was happily ready to chatter more until another presence came into the circle. She gave a chipper smile to Ember. “Ah Ms. Emberlynn, how are you doing today? I bet that baby is ready to pop any minute now!” Olympia caught the weird look and snorted. What a disgusting look of jealousy. But what piqued her interest mainly was Jax’s words we’re just friends.
A small frown graced her lips for a minute before Miss Frizzle-like appearance came back. “I was inviting my friend, Jax to an event of mine. No need for the look of jealousy, you’re invited as well! I’m sure a nice walk around the town will do you and the baby good. You’re welcome to bring your baby daddy if you’d like?” Maybe that was an assumption. Olympia didn’t know Ember that well. At all really despite the number of years she worked with her. The young woman didn’t seem to want to be friends with anyone and was constantly always on her own. Ember seemed to be polite enough though. Even though Olympia liked to be friendly, she was never one to force anything onto anyone else.
Then something else clicked, in the multiple conversations topics Olympia had going on her head. “Oh! Also, you forgot some of your gifts from the baby shower. Would you like to take them home today?”
“I’m doing well Olympia and yes almost time not quite, I hope you are doing well too?” She questioned catching the little snort by Olympia for the look she had just given. Em found herself looking down at her next remark her cheeks a slight pink color, so they were just friends well it was wrong of her to assume anything else, “well thank you for the invite I think it sounds like fun and no baby daddy in the picture that’s a bit of a sore subject and part of the reason I moved over here, he was not a great man.” Em gave a smile and watched as Olympia seemed to get lost in her own thoughts for a moment of time and then jump into the forgotten gifs from the baby shower the teachers had thrown her, “oh yes I’m so sorry I keep forgetting to grab them I have been so busy with planning the math bowl and getting the kids ready for that, that it just simply slipped my brain I will grab them today before I leave,” she smiled again and looked at Jax and the flowers he was holding, he definitely had a talent in that department they were beautiful arranged and just the right amount of color but not too much. “Oh I am sorry for intruding on your guys conversation I definitely did not mean to step on any toes.” Em spoke once more looking between the two of them.
As a mild look of jealous swept over Emberlynn's features for the briefest of moments, followed by a snort escaping Olympia standing besides him, Jax Shepherd suddenly realized that this somehow turned into his most dangerous mission yet. And in that moment, he rather be breaking into a terrorist compound at the dead of morning rather than be in-between these two women. Nevermind besides his sisters, Emberlynn and Olympia were the most important women in his life. Hazel eyes also caught the look on Olympia's face when he stated they were just friends, and he wasn't exactly sure what to make of the frown that had graced her features. He remained dead quiet between their exchange, which turned out to be civil, but the man cringed a little when Olympia mentioned the baby daddy.
He was beginning to feel a little forgotten all of the sudden, as if Jax had been the one to intrude on something. His heart was still racing, and his pulse was beating with every second that passed by where he found himself uncertain of what to do until Emberlynn spoke: "Oh I am sorry for intruding on your guys conversation I definitely did not mean to step on any toes.” In that moment, the man made certain to seize control of the situation, "You're not interrupting anything. I, uh, made these for you." And Jax unceremoniously shoved them into Emberlynn's hands before his own hands became too sweaty with nerves from this situation. Hazel eyes stared at her for a moment, before suddenly needing a distraction, and glanced back to Olympia, "I can help you with carrying any of Ember's stuff to her car. What time is your event this weekend? I can grab Ember on my way to you."
Wait, did he just inadvertently say he was taking Emberlynn Myer out on a date that his best friend Olympia Blanchet was hosting? Suddenly, Jax thought he might need a beer.
They say its a suicide mission. I intend to prove them wrong.
