A hayride? Jaana had never heard of those and she wondered what it was. Piper had briefly explained it to her while they were chatting over a plate of food. Maybe if she wasn’t in so much awe of Piper’s sewing skills, she may have heard more of what her friend was saying.
After the hat draw to pick groups, Jaana found her little spot of her fellow group twos. She gave them all a look over. Not in a rude way, but to make sure to know their faces. Most of the people she didn’t know, other than the twins, Landon and Ronan. Jaana hoped she would maybe get some new friends out of this.
“So…” she started, clasping her hands behind her back. “Has everyone been enjoying themselves?” Jaana wasn’t someone who knew how to create small talk, but it felt like a valid question to be answered as they waited their turn.
This was quite the group he had gotten paired into for going on a Haunted Hayride. Unfortunately, there had been one person missing from it - Sabrina Ledor-Kita. Scoring a ride with her hadn't exactly worked out in Jamie's favor, Lady Luck clearly had other plans for other people. As the numbers had been drawn and al the teenagers curiously eyed each other, it was clear that they were all quite baffled by their drawings, and perhaps, who they were selected with. Yes, the teenager was a little dejected that he hadn't scored a ride with Sabrina, who's halloween outfit of choice kept on catching his eye for distracting reasons, and that she was standing with a bunch of guys now, but Jamie wouldn't be a sore loser over it.
Blue eyes looked to her one last time, standing there with Ronan Slade and two others that he didn't quite recognize before returning his attention to his fellow group members. He thankfully knew two out of the three: Jaana Hagen who he vaguely knew from University, Emma Young whom he chatted and rode with all the time at Blue Arces, and then one Boyd Reid, who was 'new' to Jamie at least. Not a bad group all things to consider. The group ahead of them was loaded into their hayride now, and he could hear the driver's booming voice welcoming them before the tractor kicked off and left them. Jamie didn't have much time to consider the words he overheard for a voice piped up besides him.
His gaze went to it's speaker: Jaana Hagen, who looked like her own version of a Disney princess for the evening, or at least, a fair maiden. She almost looked uncertain of herself in this group of strangers, so in an attempt to be warming, Jamie offered her an easy and gentle smile before answering, "I am, although admittingly after overhearing that Tractor Driver's booming voice and what lies ahead on that ride, I might need Emma here to protect me." Jamie joked now, before playfully elbowing the blonde teenager in the arm now to encourage her to join the conversation, "I take it they don't do this sort of thing in Norway?"

Emma wasn't surprised she was dressed up as a pirate and sitting on the back of a wagon hitched to a horse. She approached the group, her boots clicking against the concrete. It was a weird sound for her to hear as high heels wasn't something she sported often.
There were a few people she recognized - the twins and Jameson only really. She watched as the others studied the group, almost as if it was some sort of competition. Emma was sure someone thought she looked like Barbie but she wouldn't ever consider herself a plastic.
"Hello everyone, I'm Emma for those who don't know me." She addressed the group and then very quickly after they were separated into hay ride groups. Emma walked over to the group twos, glad she at least knew Jameson from the barn - and their group lessons with Miss Aurora. "Oh, you think I'm going to protect you? I thought you were the strong one."
The blonde teenager elbowed him back. She reminded herself that it was all fake and that it was meant to be a fun event. "Good thanks, the food was enjoyable. Anyone done a haunted hayride before?"

“Unfortunately no, it’s not something I’ve ever experienced before. But I’m sure that the twins have made it a fun ride.” Jaana watched as the girl Emma became oddly familiar with Jameson. “Food? They said we would be having dinner after our rides. But we haven’t eaten yet though….” Maybe Jaana missed something. She and Landon didn’t arrive late. He wouldn’t allow it.
She watched more of the interaction, gears turning. It was a bit suspicious, or maybe her social cues from her peers were something she had yet to learn more of. Jaan knew more about having to save face in front of adults, and not the nudging of friends.
It didn’t take long for the trailer to lurch forward slowly, what felt like ten minutes after the first tractor. Jaana thought all the drivers would give the speech, but it sounded like the first tractor was loud enough for everyone to hear. Or maybe their driver was lazy.
Leave it to Emma to not be taking any of his playful shit. Jamie couldn't help but to laugh when she elbowed him right back, "Hey, I am strong. I'm just giving you two girls the chance to flip the norms and protect a handsome prince." He supposed he better back off from the teasing though. Out of the corner of his eye, Jamie had caught the look that Jaana had given the two of them, and the last thing he had wanted to do was to leave the redhead from Norway feeling left out.
"I snatched an apple from the dunking barrel as a snack," he said with a grin, "Since I was running late, but I will be rounding back to the food after this I think." The young man made sure to help each girl into the trailer like the gentleman he was, before getting up himself and continued on, "And yeah, this is my first. All my other hay rides have not been haunted." Jamie had some poor timing though, because right when he was about to pop a squat, the tractor lurched forward. Guess they were suppose to just take their que from the tractor ahead.
He managed to catch himself, but not nearly without colliding into Emma. Thankfully, it wasn't an ugly bump, and Jamie managed to spare himself, or Emma for that matter, any terrible embarrassments. Over the skies, he heard the sound of organ music now and Jamie was already curious. He twisted a little in his seat now, his elbow resting on the the ledge of the trailer wall as blue eyes stared out into the darkness, seeing light up up ahead, "Okay you two. Vampires, Werewolves, and zombies are not allowed to touch me."

"Thanks for giving me the opportunity, but I think we will stick with the gender norms. I'm usually pretty independent but who knows what the twins have planned." Emma held back an eye roll - she should have known Jameson would be the class clown, even away from the classroom.
She glanced over at Jaana - glad to hear she wasn't the only one who hadn't done a haunted hayride. Emma had participated in a few Winter/Christmas themed sleigh rides, but this was different. "I have to admit I don't know the twins well. Do you two? I ran into Piper on a trail ride once or twice this Summer." Emma had learned about Helping Hooves stables there as well. She made a mental note to ask the twins if they wanted to join her on another one before the snow began to fall. "Ah, yeah I grabbed a snack. I'll have to go back for food as well after. Everything smells amazing!" Emma was far too hungry and the smell of food was enticing to her. She had just come from the barn and didn't have time to eat before she had to get ready.
As the trailer lurched forward, it was far to late for her to turn back. She figured as the haunted hay ride didn't come with a rating, it wouldn't be anything too creepy or gory. There was a bit of a commotion - she saw Jameson almost fall on top of her. The blonde teen shuffled over just in time, avoiding any awkward situation. "What about the ghosts? I'm sure they have those up ahead." She shuffled herself around, getting comfortable before the hay ride continued.
