How in the hell was Sabrina stuck riding the Haunted Hayride with Ronan Slade? Not that there wasn’t anything wrong with Ronan, and even if the twins switched seats – it would be noticeable and not fair. Even though they were the hosts of the shindig, they wanted it to be fair. Plus, the hayride was only for a few minutes. Sabrina could handle not staring at Jamie’s face. It’s not like Piper was in Jamie's group either. It was Emma and Jaana that Sabrina was a bit jealous of.
Sabrina’s group was third and they were stuck waiting. While the second group was screaming and giggling – she looked at her guests. “Is this someone’s first hayride?” Sabrina inquired. More so in case someone needed an explanation or something. No one wrote they needed accommodations for anything, but things did happen.
After learning about Helping Hooves, Sabrina was the one that had invited him to their Halloween event. It took him awhile to figure out his costume and he was thankful that Dahlia had helped him. He got himself ready and headed off to the barn, setting the fake glasses on his face as he headed out the door.
He kept his long sleeved shirt buttoned up, just allowing the Superman crest to show through a little. Justin was pleasantly surprised at the set up - they clearly went all out with this event. Justin found out he was in wagon number three once he arrived. He knew he wouldn't know anyone, but it seemed to be something he was used to by now.
Justin noticed Sabrina and gave the teen a wave. "Hey, glad I know someone on my wagon. I've never done this before so I'd like an explanation, please." He found a seat in the back and sat down. The teen was wondering who else would be joining them.
Ronan wasn't the least bit surprised that he didn't get slated to ride this haunted hayride with Piper Ledor-Kita. The young man had learned long ago that when you set out to do something, life had a funny habit of trying to throw as many obstacles at you as it could. While annoying, Ronan didn't feel like it was the end of the world. Just like he had been in the car, he was already feeling some cold feet, and decided that maybe the haunted hayride was a welcomed distraction.
Still, that didn't stop blue grey eyes from watching the first tractor leave with Piper aboard along with Brooklyn Hazelton. Soon, the darkness appeared to swallow them whole, and just like that, Ronan returned his attention to the group at hand: Sabrina Ledor-Kita and Justin Baron, a guy he only vaguely knew from the one or two times he had been at Helping Hooves recently. He couldn't help but to notice how distracted the other Ledor-Kita girl looked and how her gaze occasionally flickered towards the other group still with them. One look at Hayride Group 2 though explained everything outright without any words needing to be said. While it was tempting to tease her, he kept his mouth shut.
He shoved his hands into his coat pockets as Sabrina spoke now, and besides him, Justin piped up about never doing something like this before. This certainly would be an interesting ride, "I've been on a hayride, just not the haunted variety." He assumed cheap scares and family fun though.
“Oh. Sure. We all sit on this trailer that’s dragged by a tractor. There are a few hay bales on it. Some places have it where we ride facing in, but because this is a haunted one – we face out. We didn’t make it super long, but the ride will be a few good minutes,” Sabrina smiled. “It’ll be fun, I promise.”
It didn’t take long for the signal to start, so the tractor lurched forward – tires catching onto the gravel. The smell of diesel kissed the air as they all began moving forward. While Sabrina knew what the possible scares were, she had no idea what Piper’s theater friends or the volunteer's order of popping up would be. Which made it fun for her and sister as well.
The mist of the fog machine went off – and the trailer was shrouded in fake fog, only illuminating some of the horses that were painted in animal-safe glow-in-the-dark paint. Their whinnies in the pasture rang through, as they pranced about. Only for the sound of hoofbeats in the distance to get closer and closer. A black Friesian broke the fog, its rider dressed in all black and missing their head.
It took Justin a moment to recognize Ronan. The teen seemed to be spending more and more time at Helping Hooves. Something about the horses made him feel calm - especially after being constantly on the run. The whole Ledor-Kita family was quite accepting of him being a homeless teen. He needed a home before he started their therapy program. "Ronan, I didn't recognize you. How have you been?" He could blame it on the costume, but Justin felt quite scatterbrained.
He raised his eyebrows as Sabrina explained what was going to happen. The word haunted made him think that there were going to be some sort of jump scares along the way. After choosing his seat on the wagon, he made himself comfortable - relaxing for the first time in what felt like ages.
The feeling of calm had quickly left him as soon as he saw the glow-in-the-dark horses. He gasped quietly as he saw the headless rider on top of the horse. "Well this is an interesting start!" He tried to sound excited, which he truly was deep inside. Being invited to a party like this wasn't something he tended to experience as a child. "Do you know what's going to happen Sabrina?" He didn't know how much planning the two sisters had in this - or if they had friends that planned the hauntings for them.
Ronan was tempted to point out to Sabrina that her and her sister tended to have a different idea of 'fun' compared to everyone else, but decided against it. Given the atmosphere of the party, this haunted hay ride would be fun. And considering he wasn't on horse back, Ronan didn't have to worry about falling off unless this trailer somehow hit a nasty bump, "Ah, I've been fine, Justin. Same old, same old. Hope you're doing good as well." The young man offered. He doubted they would have much time for conversation as the tractor lurched forward now.
He settled into his seat of haybales now, blue grey eyes watching out into the darkness. It wasn't long before he saw some 'skeletal' horses lingering about in the pastures. A good chuckle escaped Ronan upon witnessing them. If that was the start to this haunted ride, he could only imagine what would follow. Up ahead, he heard the sound of hoofbeats of an approaching horse. Funny. All the ones in the pastures had stopped running. Then out of the fog, came, no lie, a headless horseman, "Fuck! That guy has no head."
