His dark curly hair remains impossible to tame and his eyes are hazel. He now needs glasses for reading and he has thick body hair, making him very smelly after a long day outside with the horses. His skin is light olive and he is mostly of Irish descent, but is 1/4 Irish traveler and 1/4 Greek on his father's side. He is partially deaf, but self identifies as "hard of hearing". the personality likes • - horses - libraries - close captioning - music (plays guitar) - fox hunting - summer and warm days dislikes • - loud parties - crowds - fancy affairs - math - lazy or slow horses - thick, squishy, cold mud strengths • - smart, self-sufficient - determined, relentless - charming weaknesses • - anger management problems - feeling of not belonging and existing in an in-between no man's land (he's not fully hearing and he's not deaf) - self-doubt/imposter syndrome - still not fully aware of how privileged he is (being wealthy and related to nobility) - struggles in loud group settings and bars dreams • - make the Irish Olympic Eventing or Show Jumping team fears • - blood - failure overall personality • Gideon is a rather intense man. He's the type of person wakes up in the morning, drinks his green smoothie, rides five horses before 1 o'clock and then gets frustrated when everyone else is going as hard as he is. He brings 150% to everything he does, which makes him a fierce competitor and a passionate teacher. Although he grew up never wanting for anything, material problems don't set him back – a broken bridle? No problem – he'll fix it with baling twine. Broken girth? He'll ride bareback. He's a gutsy rider and easily becomes bored once he masters something and often his frustration leads to badly managed anger issues. the history father • Cormac Daley, 64, tech entrepreneur mother • Caitlin Daley (nee Talbot), 60, socialite and equestrian entrepreneur siblings • Fiona Daley, sister, 31, socialite and fashion designer important people • Talbot family hometown • Malahide, Ireland overall history • Gideon Daley was born the great nephew of the then-Baron of Malahide. His mother was the niece of the baron and his father was a tech wizard who married into the family. He grew up wealthy and was expected to attend many fancy social events and behave accordingly. Gideon was born almost completely deaf in one ear, which caused balance problems and frustration on his part because he had problems understanding what was said in noisy, distracting environments like parties, even calm ones. He much preferred talking one-on-one with people and being able to see their lips move. He never learned to sign and does not identify as a member of the deaf community. His mum, Caitlin, had had an interest in dressage from a young age and she got him started with horses. Gideon instantly took to it – it was something that allowed him to communicate without many words and he could balance much better on horseback than on the ground. It was a quiet atmosphere and he didn't need to rely on mis-hearing other people all the time. As he got older, he turned to jumping, fox hunting, and other more “exciting” endeavors. He even worked as a Steeplechase jockey in his later teens (much to the displeasure of his mother's family), but then he got too big. At first, he thought he wanted to be a vet, but his math scores were too high and he's afraid of blood and anyway, he loved competition more than anything else in the world. He attended University for Equine Business and Irish History and it was then that he decided that what he really wanted to do was compete for Ireland in the Olympics. After university, he managed a Steeplechase barn for a few years while he continued to compete. During this time, he continued training and competed. He tried out for the FEI Games twice, but did not make either the Eventing or Show Jumping teams. He needed a change and made the move to Hickstead for a few years. Maybe he'd meet a few people and then try out again for the Irish team. the role player alias • Peregrine, Pip for short – pronouns are he/him/his age • old enough to be complimented when I'm carded other characters • give it time |
