Despite the fact that he plays a very physical game, Leon has never had any ever lasting scars and jokes that the reason why Cassie McLellan still dates him is because unlike several of his fellow NHL teammates, he has managed to keep all of his teeth intact. His hair is usually kept short on the sides and allows the top of it grow out so he can get some good styling in - whether its too the side or into a fauxhawk typically depends on his mood of the day. Naturally, his hair is dark, but sunlight has been naturally bleaching it over the years and he doesn't do much to fight it since it's only obvious when the sun hits it at just the right angle. But the accusations never bother him, if that's what people want to think - then so be it. He's been labeled as serious, stubborn - debatably bullheaded, and intimidating. To top it all off, apparently his major offense to people his that he hardly ever laughs, which is bullshit since he's done it before in interviews if you know where to look and listen. His European upbringing makes him blunt and to the point with almost everyone, thinking its better to speak the truth than to sugar coat it - especially when it comes to his teammates. Leon can be awkward sometimes, whether its because of Cassie, his fellow teammates, or other variants going on, but he does his best to overcome it. And while he thinks he's being clever and secretive about his relationship with Cassie - literally all his teammates know. Sometimes, Leon has separation issues - probably because he left Germany at Fifteen to move to Canada - and can get lonely during the Hockey Season just because Cassie's not there to come home to and the time difference between Canada and the United Kingdom, but he does his best to try to not let it get the best of him. He's utterly loyal to Cassie, and is quite playful with her - giving him a total mood shift whenever he's around her and tries to keep her in his arms as long as humanly possible. Given that his father was a retired hockey player and currently coached a prominent German club, it was only natural for Jonas and Ava to put Leon in skates the moment he could stand. The joke in the household is that both of their children knew how to skate before they really knew how to walk. While his parents tested him out in numerous sports outside of hockey, to include football, nothing stuck with him quite like the ice sport, little did he know would put him on a path towards greatness. Every day, Leon lived and breathed hockey. His father privately coached him as a child when he wasn't with his club teams. Every minute of the waking day was spent perfecting slap shots, sprints, checking, and assists. His young body pushed to the limits each day, but he always bounced back, no matter how tired he was, Leon was determined to see everything through. Hockey always took priority over everything else for him, leading to home schooling and a lack of socialization outside of the team sport and his family. While Ava yearned to get him outside of the ice rink more, just so he wouldn't be so...well, awkward, Jonas did not want him distracted. Despite Ava's protests, everything came to a head several years later. He made played onto the Munich regional Under 16 team for the German Development League. At age 15, his final year playing in Munich, Leon wracked up a total of 21 goals and 56 points in 35 games which awarded him with Player of the Year. Coming off of that award, Leon selected second overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft by the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League. Honestly, he was in shock and couldn't believe the chance he was getting. His family was ecstatic, namely his father, while his mother and sister supported him but knew they would miss him terribly. Truth be told, Leon was afraid of leaving Germany. It was all he had ever known and he was, getting shipped off to a new country and his family would not be coming with him. He would be totally alone, with nothing but a laptop and a video camera, to get him through the adjustment period, or so he would think. No matter what though, Leon felt like one of the hardest moments of his life was getting on that Canada Air flight and saying good bye to his family. When he arrived in Prince Albert, he was picked up at the airport by his new hockey coach, Todd McLellan, and his fifteen year old daughter Cassandra "Cassie" McLellan. Leon was absolutely smitten upon the first time he met her, to the point that he actually forgot to speak English and started jabbering away in nervous German before he realized, to his horror, that she had no idea on what he was saying. Horrified, he refused to talk to her for the rest of the car ride, only talking with her father in purposeful broken English while he occasional snuck some looks at her and offered her the occasional awkward smile. Leon took to balancing his new hockey career with Prince Albert Raiders while socializing with the McLellans - who turned out were his social sponsors and boarders while he got acclimated to living in Canada. The cold never bothered him, but the difference in food certainly took a while for him to understand and this obsession with all things maple. He also did his best to hang out with Cassie and getting to know her, foolishly allowing her to tutor him in English until one day - one of his fellow teammates outed him accidently - as always knowing how to speak the language. By his lucky stars, she somehow thought it was cute and managed to forgive him, much to his delight and embarrassment at the same time. Leon also grew as a person, Canada and being away from the strict regiment that his father had him on, allowed him to blossom. While he occasionally was still the straight laced, time punctual German and his streak of awkwardness would show through, he mostly started to develop into a calm and collected boy, with a habit for skating fast and striking hard. As he grew, so did his confidence, and he finally had the nerve to ask Cassie out - with him promising that they wouldn't tell her father - given he was mildly terrified to see what the old hockey player would do to him if he found out that he was dating his daughter under his own roof. At eighteen, Leon got drafted into the Edmonton Oilers for the National Hockey League, every hockey kid's dream come true. Even his parents flew down for the draft, and got to know the McLellan's. He got one year with Cassie post draft, where they could still always be together and he was willing to drive to Prince Albert to visit her. That five hour drive on the Yellowhead High Way always worth it. Unfortunately though, tragedy soon struck within the McLellan Family. Cassie got word that her Uncle was sick, and she wished to relocate to England to help take care of him. Leon, selfishly, was a little devastated over this news. He was even tempted to get a transfer to one of the European Leagues just so he could be closer to her. When he put in the request trade, his agent flipped along with the Oilers, given that he wasn't exactly being clear on why he wanted to leave. He still feared Todd McLellan for childish reasons and he wasn't sure if he could exactly say that it was for a woman whom he knew he deeply loved. Without a proper answer, he was shot down and it was Cassie who had to talk him out of it, soothing him over and reassuring him that no matter what, their love and bond was stronger than any ocean that would keep them apart. That no matter what - they were always together even if they couldn't look at the stars together. He believed her, and to his credit, remained strong even though he was scarred to death of the distance. But maturity and love proved to be the greater power than fear, and they survived every argument, every fight, and ever mile that kept them apart. He even surprised her with a horse in England one year. While Leon doesn't always find their dating life truly ideal, he relocates to England every summer to be and live with her, he makes it work via endless text messages and coordinating face times when their hours line up.
