She was adopted at the age of two by her father’s cousin, Andrew, and his wife, Melinda. A god-fearing, but a kind couple. For a few years, she was considered an only child – as the other children in the household were fosters. It allowed her to have the feeling of being siblings, without the full commitment. She grew up as a shy kid, often hiding away when the others got a bit too rambunctious. Her self-deprecating joke is that her parents had more time with the children they were fostering than with Yuliana herself. It wasn’t true, of course. They gave Yuliana plenty of their time. She had just started getting jealous, that these other children were achieving so much, and she was achieving so little – that she would lie to get some kind of praise. Her life kind of came to halt when her parents began adopting a few children they were fostering, breeding a bit of resentment on her end. She was used to being the only child of the so-called family. Granted, her parents had asked her first- and Yuliana answered yes. But the growing jealousy was still there, as she always thought it was a hypothetical question. At 18, she moved out. The noise of the home was too much now, and she was ready to experience life on her own. While her parents never made her feel guilty, Yuliana still found herself calling her parents about every single achievement she had. Varying from getting good grades to getting her own car. It wasn’t until after graduating from university, did she realize how toxic she was as a human being. The resentment and jealousy she had for the other children in her parents’ lives were not healthy amounts. Yuliana told herself that she needed to add more distance between her and her parents, moving to a small town called Hickstead. It was quiet, and quaint – both things she enjoyed. She worked odd-end jobs until she was about twenty-eight, finally getting to the point that her life needed a bit more substance. On a whim, she bought an old storefront on High Street. There were plenty of libraries and cafes, but there wasn’t a combo of the two. As an obsessive reader and lover of fancy coffee, Yuliana opened the Book Nook when she was thirty-two. It was a bit of a slow start, but business has since picked up and Yuliana has been enjoying her new life. She still has the desire to call her parents about every single little thing – but she has limited herself to one or three phone calls a month, that she initiates. the role player alias • aofie age • oops other characters • did it again |
