Ivey was nervous. There wasn't a reason for her to be, mainly because she trusted Wynnie and Teddy. Out of the people she had met so far in Hickstead, they were her closest people. She had other friends, too, but they were more of her confidants and people she trusted. Next to Natalie and Piper, as well.
She had told Natalie already, her big plans happening in the summer. Nothing exciting, but life-changing. Ivey had texted Wynnie and Teddy, saying to not worry -and she was fine. She knew texting someone that they needed to talk could mean a lot of things. Mainly bad things.
Ivey sat, looking at the rolling waves. The weather was sunny for once, making her Sunday morning shift a bit more tolerable. It allowed her to calm her nerves before the big announcement of life-changing surgery.
"Wyn, I am sure it's nothing," Teddy Beauchamp commented, finding himself to immediately regret it when the short girl threw him a dangerous glare, "Okay, so maybe Ivey sent us a poor choice of words." That had actually been the understatement of the year and they were only a few weeks in. His basket ball reflexes kicking in as Wynnie Moriarty stopped abruptly in front of him, causing him to nearly crash into her if it weren't for his quick feet.
"Listen Teddy, I don't care what that's going on in that cool suave head of yours. This is not nothing. Nobody says 'Oh I have big plans I need to tell you but don't worry! it's cool'. Something's going on," Wynnie said now, glancing up at him with her hazel eyes. The two of them eyed each other - as if waiting for the other to cave to their legit sounding logic, but Wynnie was too proud and Teddy was too laid back which quickly lead them to hitting stalemate with each other - as always.
A frustrated sound escaped Wynnie, she threw up her hands dramatically like the young man didn't understand her, and she stormed off towards the dock, muttering something about how his hair product was affecting his brain. A snort of laughter escaped Teddy, he wasn't sure what it was but he always seemed to find himself befriending people who were both big on life and unable to handle his ever chill ability to get through whatever life threw his way, "Wynnie! Come on! Wait up!" And just like that, he jogged to catch up with her.
Wynnie was annoyed that Teddy could easily fall back in stride with her. Why did she have to be so short? It made it impossible to leave annoying boys like Teddy in the dust as she stomped her way down the docks. Any of those big, burly men better watch out, because she was on a war path to give Ivey a piece of her mind for that text. But as the pair fell on Ivey, siting on the dock and watching the rolling waves in the early morning sunlight, Wynnie felt guilty for being angry and Teddy suddenly realized that Wynnie may have been onto something.
"Hey!" The pint sized blonde called out, while the brunette followed up, "We're here!" Both choosing to flop down on either size of Ivey Kinsley now, as if it was the most natural thing to do. With their feet waving off the deck, that salty ocean breeze hitting their faces, as the pair expectantly looked at their friend. It was Teddy however, ever the gentleman, who went first, "So, how are-" But he found himself quickly cut off.
"Forget that Teddy," Wynnie bit in now, "Ivey! What's wrong. Your text sounded serious despite your best to make it light. And somehow, Teddy couldn't get the details out of Natalie."
It didn’t take long for the rattling boards of the dock to be heard. Ivey looked up and saw Wynnie and Teddy hauling ass toward her. She waved and soon enough, she was concerned about the warmth of her two friends. Ivey was about to say something but Teddy, and then Wynnie came crashing in.
“I’m fine! I promise, I just wanted to let you both know I’m going home for the summer. Obviously, not the whole summer season, but the month of July. The news is…I got approved! They approved me to get this wretched uterus of mine to be finally taken out.” She was maybe a bit more excited about it, but she was ready to be pain-free. “But I’m nervous, obviously. It’s a massive surgery to deal with and the recovery can be a bit brutal. It’ll suck ass not being here, but I’ll be more comfortable at home. Less stress…” .
They could both tell that they had jumped the gun on Ivey before the poor girl could even spit anything out. While Teddy felt mildly guilty, given he was normally so laid back, Wynnie could have cared less. She wanted answers, and she had never been the patient sort. Clearly her attitude had rubbed off on the young man within their walk from the uber to the marina. Still, that hadn't stopped Teddy from giving Ivey a rather apologetic puppy look.
Then came the news. Ivey was going home to the United States, and she was finally getting that surgery that she had wanted. It was a little weird to think, that at her age, that Ivey was signing up for a hysterotomy but given the pain she had endured and the physical toll, there was no judgement from either Teddy or Wynnie. They both smiled in unison now, "That's great!" Wynnie exclaimed, "Glad to hear those doctors in fancy Connecticut finally came through. Although, I'll miss you." She, herself, would be remaining in Hickstead for the summer, starting to train up on her equestrian dreams.
Teddy nodded, "Well, even though we live in different parts of the country, just text me if you need anything. I'll happy take a plane from Oklahoma to you." Besides, he knew a thing or two about helicopter parents, and while he was certain that Ivey did not have those sorts, being bedridden tended to make people act a little differently. He thought a little bit about Ivey's drop off about stress, but he could only think of one stressful thing, "I'm sure Bambi won't bother you at home if that's what youre-" But he was cut off via an arm swinging right into his chest, hard. The young man granted, and looked over at Wynnie now who was giving him 'the look'.
Wynnie figured that Bambi Pelner was the least on Ivey''s mind, but just in case, maybe she should change the subject, "You said recovery will be long and hard? Is it just being bed ridden or are you going to have some physical therapy along with that."
“Well, you both can come to visit. I’m sure my mom won't notice her credit card missing,” Ivey joked. She considered frowning at Teddy’s comment about Bambi, but she wasn’t about to let that dampen the mood. Even if Bambi knew about it all, Ivey had a sinking feeling that she wouldn’t acknowledge her about it. And if she did, would she even visit? Ivey had Wynnie, Teddy, and so many more people now. It didn’t fill the Bambi-shaped hole, but it was better than facing this alone.
“Bedridden for a bit, but then I can start a bit of exercise. The incisions aren’t too bad, but I have to pay attention to the possible infections and all that kind of stuff. There are some weird special massages and also pelvic floor therapy I think? There’s this whole binder I have now. If anything, it will help keep some of my family off my back about asking about children. Urgh. I won’t miss getting asked that. I’m not even married yet. Jesus!” Ivey, let alone, wasn’t even old enough. Granted, there were people her age who were popping out babies, but Ivey – even capable, wasn’t going to ruin her career plans for an alien.
Wynnie couldn't get over her male friend's stupidity about bringing up Bambi. If he wasn't in college and put together his own independent major from scratch, she would have thought he was as dumb as a bag of bricks - and she meant that in a loving way. Thankfully, it hadn't seemed to dampen any of Ivey's mood though as the blonde soon launched into an explanation about how she would be bed ridden for weeks to come and all of the therapy. The therapy made her cringe.
Besides her, Teddy had his own thoughts, "Hey, I bet we could build some epic pillow and blanket fords around you. They're not just for little kids anymore." In fact, Nat had sent him quite a few inspiring pintrests the other day that he was willing to experiment with, fairy lights and all. It felt like a nice thing to do for Ivey anyways, bring a little magic to her and her home when she was recovering. Her kid comments couldn't help but to make him roll his eyes, but not at her, "Ah. Gotta love the thought process of the rich and old money. I know how you feel." He used to get the brunt of that all the time, the family pressures starting at a mere fourteen years of age. Now it was his brother's problem.
The conversation change and shift away from Ivey's former friend made Wynnie relax a bit now, thanks to this talk about pillow forts and nagging parents. It was weird for the young woman to hear her friends talk like that, but perhaps it just showed that she came from a different background, "I can't believe your families nag you about that stuff. Haven't even graduated college yet." She shook her head, before returning her gaze to her friend now, "Well, Teddy and I got your back. We'll be like an invisible forcefield for your family to bounce off of when we're around. I've actually never been to Connecticut before. Have you, Teddy?"
He shook his head, "Nah, just the South." He replied, before grinning at Ivey now, "Maybe that can be your walking physical therapy. Us dragging you all over fancy Connecticut."
Wynnie couldn't help but to smile at that suggestion. She wasn't sure what sort of memories Conneticuit held for Ivey now, but if nothing else, they could help make her make new ones.
