His father met Rachel when he relocated to England due to a job opportunity, making her the only mother in Ivan’s eyes, and a fantastic stepmom to his older siblings. Growing up, Ivan and his siblings were multi-trained in Ice Skating and horseback riding, being pulled towards both their parents’ interests. His father ran his own skate team for many years, getting multiple titles. Rachel was never a professional rider, but she grew up on a farm – introducing the kids to horses when they first met their new set of grandparents. Ivan’s sister went full force towards figure skating, making her their father’s prodigy – leaving Ivan and his brother to decide where they went. His brother never truly decided, finding interest in things that weren’t the ice or galloping around. Ivan fell in love with figure skating first but loved equestrian too. In the end, he chose ice skating - with horse riding as a side interest. When Ivan was ten, he experienced a nasty fall from a pine tree on his grandparent’s property. He broke both of his legs, forced to stop skating and riding. After what was deemed a successful surgery, it became apparent that Ivan was developing sepsis when he became extremely ill. His parents had to make the difficult decision to amputate their son’s legs below the knee. It took years of PT and working with specialists for Ivan to return to the level of activity he was at before. During this time, Seo-Jun became an advocate and coach of amputated figure skaters. As he wanted kids and adults like Ivan, to have the chance to skate as well. Ivan also began to ride more, as it relieved the stress he had with his prosthetics. While he couldn’t do figure skating or ride professionally, Ivan continued with his life. He attended Johns Hopkins for biomedical engineering, leading him into becoming a prosthetist. For fun, Ivan ended up taking some sculpture classes – which ultimately helped him in his career. As it gave him a more artistic and aesthetic approach to prosthetics. Ivan stayed in the US for a few years, building his knowledge and connections before returning to Hickstead in November 2022. He’s readjusting to being home again. While he’s still waiting to hear back from some local hospitals and private institutions, Ivan has picked up horse riding again – something he hadn’t done since after graduation. He still skates but doesn’t do it competitively anymore. the role player alias • aofie age • hmm.. other characters • more than a few BK chicken fries |
