She was born to two hearing parents, making her the oddity of the three Bordeaux children. Growing up, she was seen as odd by her peers and neighbors, as the community of one thousand people was superstitious. While no one was very outspoken about it, Emelia could tell people wanted to avoid her. The young girl found comfort at home, watching her mother and grandmother prep daddy’s catch and hunt. Her siblings had friends, while she had the great riverway that they lived on. Despite not being able to hear, Emelia found love in following her dad on his gator hunts and noodling excursions. Cory always said that she was the perfect child as she could never repeat the curse words that dropped from his lips when a gator escaped. No one could believe a Creole girl from the Bayous of Louisiana would make it so far, so quick. NIGHTMARES BEGIN At the age of twenty – Emelia met Lawrence, a fellow ice skater. The two hit it off and were married two years later. Everything was sunshine and roses before tragedy struck. While away during a show, Hurricane Katrina struck havoc on the Louisiana coastline. The small-town Emelia loved was lost. All the memories and the people she loved, were gone. Her siblings survived as they were far from the area, but both her parents and her grandmother were returned to mother nature. The tragedy flipped a switch in Lawrence. It was as if the man was playing nice, knowing his in-laws were fully capable of knocking him out. Now that they were gone, he had Emelia in his talons. Their marriage became loveless, and it was now about all appearances. The scores had to be high. The money had to keep flowing in. Emelia became exhausted but couldn’t run. Lawrence had a noose around her neck, which she didn’t know if she could wriggle free. Things became worse when Emelia learned she could not have children, due to a late diagnosis of PCOS and Endometriosis. Enraged, Lawrence became physical. Emelia’s siblings had no idea how bad her situation was until there was news coverage about the great Emelia Bordeaux having her home raided and being found barely breathing. FREEDOM At age forty, Emelia was able to escape. The divorce was finalized, but not without consequences. She lost her home and her career. But she had her freedom and her family. Emelia followed her siblings to England, where they had both moved for their careers. One was in Brighton, and the other in Hickstead. It took her a moment to settle, a bit wary of people finding out who she was. But after a year, Emelia was ready to make a life change. Wanting to make nature accessible to all people, she opened Fox Meadow’s campground. It was a place where people could cabin, yurt, or tent camp. A labor of love that filled her heart and kept her busy. She was also able to get a half hysterectomy, to help ease the pains of Endo. While she can’t carry a child, Emelia gives all her love to her nieces and nephews. She still fears Lawrence will find her and try to rope her back into his darkness.
