She’ll entertain when needed but loves the idea of going out into the wilderness and camping by herself. It’s usually part of her self-care ritual where she goes and camps someplace for a weekend, every few weeks – no matter the weather. Her parents didn’t do a gender reveal and had a boy's name picked out, but they struggled with a girl's name. When she was born, her Aunt Trish joked about naming the baby June after her birth month and it stuck. Growing up, June wasn’t a fan of her first name as it didn’t sound tough or interesting – making her choose to go by her middle name, Cadence. The family lived comfortably, enough to enjoy game hunting, but never felt the luxury of having more than two cars. June never fit in with the crowd around her, always nose deep in her sketchbook – drawing flowers and trees. She found friends in the trees and rocks on the farm that bordered her home. Aunt Trish would always say June had a pet rock collection that rivaled anyone in England, but always entertained June’s imagination. While her parents were loving, they didn’t know how to help June grow – when their other children were carbon copies of them in interest. Trish would later have June move in with her, closer to Hickstead proper – making sure the young girl had all the art supplies and reading to keep her company. June thrived, winning art shows and apprenticing at the local tattoo parlor when she turned eighteen. She excelled in tattooing but knew she needed another job when things were slow in her first years. June opted to become an esthetician, as it fell along the lines of making people feel good. It also gave her another level of understanding of how people’s skin reacted to treatment, in case something happened with a tattoo of hers or a client's. At twenty-three, June left Hickstead to go up towards London – to find herself per se. She felt she had exhausted what Hickstead could offer her and moved out to refine her skills. During her time away, Aunt Trish was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was caught too late before any minimal treatment could be offered. The diagnoses made June come back to Hickstead, at the age of twenty-seven to care for her. Watching her aunt die slowly in front of her, June became intrigued by the artistry of scar cover-up and mastectomy tattoos. She witnessed how calming and healing those pieces could offer to survivors, and June wanted to be a part of that. It brought her back to the beauty of the floral pieces she did years ago. Trish passed a year later, leaving her home to June – where June has since stayed. Feeling a bit lost after her aunt’s death, June took a year off before applying to the tattoo parlor where she apprenticed at. The owner was new, but she was okay with starting over again. She works with the hospital as a medical esthetician and still has tattoos. While it is rare that she gets new clients, June loves creating art for people new and old. She is expensive, as her pieces are intricate and full of detail – but for those that are breast cancer survivors, she pretty much charges nothing – as an homage to her aunt. She has since come to terms with her name, seeing it as a connection to her Aunt after her parents told her how her name came to be. While she still prefers to be called Cadence, she isn't afraid of introducing herself as June or people calling her June. the role player alias • aofie age • cryptid other characters • enough to energize a city |
