His parents met when Marina was traveling for work, joining the Oslo ballet for a few years. Unlike his siblings, Bryne was born in Hickstead while they were visiting family. Growing up, Bryne wished he had the ability to be surrounded by his mother’s side of the family. Everyone was in Hickstead and there was a closeness Bryne wished he had. Oslo, while pretty – brought some tough situations. Hilda, his sister, got into the life of the mob. Blinded by the money and comfort of being a possible mob wife, the Hagen family was often looking for Hilda. The tensions of her running away from home constantly, led to Bryne and his younger brother being put on the back burner. Hilda was the only daughter, which kind of made her the babied sibling – leading to some resentment growing up. It didn’t take long for Hilda to achieve her goal, making Hagen’s situation even worse. There was no escaping the life Hilda had built for herself, and the quaint family was now members out of marriage. The association led to their parents losing the friends they loved and wanted around. The image was everything, making Arne and Marina spend out of their means. Despite Hilda marrying rich, the money never touched the fingers of her parents or siblings. Thinking he was strong-willed enough to stay away, Bryne was trapped – like a fly in sap. His parents building debt, made him sell his soul to the devil – a decision that would land Bryne years in prison. After five years in of being a lackey, Bryne was approved for a so-called mission. It was an insurance fraud gone wrong. What he was told was an abandoned building, ended up ruining lives. Not only for his own but for many people in the city. Bryne was in the slammer for twelve long years, finally returning to the outside world at 37 years of age. During his time in prison, Hilda gave birth to Bryne’s niece, Jaana. His niece was unplanned – making her grandparents and Uncles raise her. Hilda and her husband would stop by, for image – but actual parenting was not done. Since his release, Bryne was deemed useless, leaving him to his own devices. Arne was still making furniture to help with the bills, so Bryne took to his father’s workspace. Furniture making came too easy to him as a child, and Bryne re-found his love for the art. At 44, Bryne was eating breakfast with his family – when the dreaded knock came at the door. Not knowing who it was, Bryne ushered his family to hide before answering the door. It was the police. There was a warehouse explosion up north in Tromso, and Hilda was found in the rubble. The family knew nothing about why she was up there, but there was a mixture of grief and relief. Sad, that they lost her, but happy they were released by the life that she looped them into. Surpassingly, they inherited some money from her after she died. Maybe it was the family, forgiving their debts – but no questions were asked or answered. Bryne packed up his parents, brother, and niece – locating everyone back to Hickstead. The town was welcoming, but there was still an air of being watched. For his family’s sake – Bryne has just done his best to keep himself together.
