Julia had just finished another lesson with Gidget. The pony had been behaving herself lately, especially after their first interesting lesson. Moses was busy chatting with the Ledor-Kita girls, which was fine by her - the paint pony was still keeping her busy. She held out her palm flat with a peppermint, the pony mare gently taking the treat from the young girl.
She glanced over her shoulder to see two people she didn't recognize. It seemed that there was going to be a new student at Helping Hooves. Julia turned her attention briefly back to Gidget, giving her gentle scratches on her bottom lip. All of a sudden, a puff of gravel and dust flew towards her, causing the pony to snort. Julia herself sneezed and turned to see where the commotion was coming from. The young girl could hear another voice mutter angrily that they were fine, causing Julia to step away from the pony to face the stranger.
The older blonde teen wasn't who she was expecting. She glanced around her surroundings, making sure the teen was talking to her and not anyone else. "Uh, I know I'm no expert but, you don't look fine. Are you here signing up for riding lessons?"
The young girl watched as Yui left the arena to watch from the other side. She had talked to Moses about who her teacher would be beforehand, so she knew it would be Bode. “What? Aren’t you happy when you ride?” Maybe he had a bit of a difficult horse, but Julia didn’t want to press the matter if it bothered her instructor.
As he approached, she stepped back from the pony, allowing him to do what he needed to do. She listened intently as the method of checking the stirrup lengths was explained. It was always fun for her to learn something new - riding horses was going to be a whole new experience. “Okay, I can do that.” She put her middle finger where Bode had his and picked up the stirrup itself with her hand. There was a bit of slack - meaning most likely that they were too long. “I think this side is too long, but I’m not sure?” It was always best for her to ask, especially since she had an expert right there. “Is that right?” It felt like an odd way to measure stirrups, but maybe once she got better at riding she would learn a different way.
Julia could already feel the warm personality coming from Reni. “It’s nice to meet you too, Renni. I’d love to feed some ponies some carrots. I don’t think we brought any though.” She wondered if anyone at the barn had carrots around - it seemed like the logical thing to do. “Yes, the lavender is just for you. Who is Cara?” Julia used her logic to think that Cara was another rider at Blue Acres, but she could be wrong.
“Four?! How do you have time for them all?” She had read about how much time one horse took - let alone four. The young girl glanced around, laughing at the antics between the horses. Shadow seemed her favorite while she watched him run away from his mother. “They are all very cool!” She could now see why most people in Hickstead had been bitten by the horse bug. “Yikes, I don’t really want to come across any wild snakes either. You picked the right person to run into. He loves reptiles! We have a few at home.” Julia wasn’t a huge fan of them, but it wasn’t like they lived in her bedroom or anything. She felt safe knowing they were behind a locked door. “You work for the police? Do you like it?” Julia didn’t really feel safe enough mentioning what happened to her parents - it was something best saved for later on.
Julia’s eyes widened at the thought of meeting ponies. “Yes!! Lead the way. I’m so excited!”
Julia was excited to have her first riding lesson. She had practically begged Moses to get her lessons - glad that he finally agreed. She even went to the tack store and picked out a riding outfit for herself - dragging Isa with her for some moral support.
She found herself in front of Gidget the pony, hoping that it would be a good experience. Julia patted the pony on the forehead before they headed out - making sure her helmet, gloves and boots were on properly. Julia followed Yui and Gidget into the indoor arena, wondering what her teacher looked like. She smiled at the two of them as the pony was halted by the mounting block. "Morning! Yes, I'm Julia. I haven't been on a horse before, though I've watched people ride. How do I get on?" She had an idea, but it was always a good idea for it to come from the instructor. Julia held the reins in her hands, focusing on the pony until she was given instructions or guidance.
Julia was amazed by the large animals. There was a welcoming silence around them - much different than what she experienced at school. "Ah I knew we forgot something. Maybe we can ask someone if they have treats?" Julia had learned a lot from Isa - who she found out knew a lot about horses. She didn't know if they were meeting someone Moses knew, but that quickly came apparent. "Hello." She waved at the other woman and stood by Moses.
The young girl quickly turned her attention to the smaller darker colored horse, who seemed to be curious about his surroundings. "Nice to meet you Miss Delca. Are any of these horses yours?" She really wanted to help give some horses some treats - though she didn't bring it up. Julia wondered how Moses met this lady - it didn't seem like anyone that worked at the daycare or after school program. "How do you two know each other?" She now took a good glance at the older woman - Julia thought she looked like a teacher - someone who had a lot of knowledge.
Julia couldn't believe that she had been living in her new home for a year now. Everything had been new to her and it was odd being able to eat when she wanted. She was enjoying the last few days of Summer, having chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream as her family treat. It felt nice and refreshing after a hot summer day. She had noticed that Isa looked a little drained, but when horses were mentioned she jumped at the chance to go see some in person.
When Isa was picked up, she waved goodbye and headed in Moses's car. She had heard about two barns from kids that went to her school, wondering which one they were going to. It didn't matter to her as she knew very little about them but she knew they were cute. During the drive, Julia tried not to ask too many questions, focusing on the scenery which changed from buildings to flat farm land.
As soon as they arrived, she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car, holding Moses's hand as they headed towards the pastures. "So cool, do you know how many of them live here?" She glanced at the horses, admiring the different colors and markings each one had. They seemed to all be busy munching on the last bits of grass. "We didn't bring apple slices did we? I hear the love those."

Their neighbours often checked on baby Julia and wanted to call child services. However, Liam threatened to hurt them if they did so they were quickly silenced. They did however kept checking on her while they were off to work. The birth of Julia drove both parents to spend all their money on alcohol - leaving the bare minimum for Julia's needs.
As she started to grow up, she became more and more independent. She recently started her first year of school - often having to get herself there as her parents forget or are too drunk to take her. During her year at kindergarten, she found the after school sports programme. She quickly fell in love with volleyball - happy she could be away from her parents just a bit longer during the day.
